Local Artists Feature Work at Cactus Market Days

Cactus Market Saturdays are a place where local craft and food vendors present their wares including handmade candles, soaps, clocks, bird feeders, bird houses, jewelry, hand sewn items, wood work, paintings and a variety of other things.

The artisans set up in the parking lot on 13 W. Twohig from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every third Saturday of the month, complimenting the Chicken Farm Art Center’s First Saturday events.

This week, Cactus Market Days added two new artists to their repertoire, Gifts by Gaia owned by Sharon Walker, and Celebrating Home owned by Rhonda Baughman.

Gifts by Gaia features bead and wire jewelry, pincushions, dream-catchers, and a quirky variety of other things.

“I’ve been working on jewelry for 20 years,” said Walker, “but I do enjoy branching out.”

While at the market, she and Vernon Brown were working on making more wire creations while greeting potential customers.

Gifts by Gaia also do commissions if you like something but hate the color or have metal allergies and can’t wear regular earrings.

Across the way from Walker was Rhonda Baughman with her Christmas Wreaths.

“I saw some at a craft fair for $150,” said Baughman, “I said to myself ‘I can make my own and sell them for less.’”

She’s been working on the wreaths made from deco mesh and other craft materials for the last two months, selling them on Facebook.

Saturday was her first booth for her wreaths, as well as her first Cactus Market Days. The Odessa native who has a lake house in San Angelo plans to keep coming back.

If you missed these ladies and their artwork, every third Saturday of the month is the Cactus Market Day.
