SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Independent School District board unanimously approved an interlocal agreement with Midland ISD during a special meeting on Monday.
The agreement is designed to streamline the procurement of food service products through combined purchasing power, resulting in anticipated cost savings for both districts.
Tiffani Hebert, San Angelo ISD’s Child Nutrition Director, explained that the partnership would leverage the warehousing capabilities of both districts.
Smaller districts often rely on direct shipments due to limited storage capacity, but the agreement allows San Angelo ISD and Midland ISD to order larger quantities of high-demand items, improving vendor pricing.
“This agreement creates more attractive opportunities for vendors, enabling us to secure significant discounts on high-volume items,” said Hebert. Examples include products such as trash bags, where bulk purchases could lead to substantial savings.
Legal teams and nutrition services leaders from both districts have collaborated on the agreement to ensure compliance with procurement policies. Each purchase under the agreement will still undergo board approval, maintaining transparency and financial accountability. Additionally, the agreement allows either district to terminate the partnership if it no longer proves beneficial.
The collaboration marks the first time either district has entered into such an agreement. While it is a pilot program, both districts are hopeful it will deliver tangible benefits. Board members approved the measure with a 7-0 vote, allowing implementation for the 2024-2025 school year.
