SAN ANGELO, TX - TLCA High School shared that Gabby Vazquez and Genesis Gonzales have been named recipients of the TLCA High School Scholarship to the National Hispanic Institute (NHI).
The institute is located in Maxwell, Texas, about four hours away from San Angelo.
The two students will represent the San Angelo community at the “Lorenzo DeZavala Institute Youth Legislative Session” this summer.
According to NHI, the LDZ is an opportunity for young people to learn how to create, manage, and navigate large organizations. Students practice various competencies during this journey, including public speaking, policy writing, and constituency development.
Information states that the NHI is a “prestigious leadership program for young leaders of Hispanic descent who have shown exceptional academic achievements, demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities, and have a desire to give back to their communities.”
"We are so very proud of these two young ladies," the school district stated.
NHI's “mission” is “To create experiences that engage achieving high school and college-age youth in community leadership roles that advance our quality of life.”
The “vision” is “To be the leading organization that fosters future community leaders for the expanding Latino community through the United States and Latin America.
