SAN ANGELO, TX — Time is running out for Texas families to seize the opportunity for their third through ninth graders to secure financial assistance through the Texas Match the Promise Foundation scholarship awards.
The application window for these scholarships, designed to support education aspirations, will close on Sunday, Dec. 31.
The scholarships cater to students enrolled in the Texas Tuition Promise Fund (TTPF), the state's prepaid college tuition plan.
To be eligible, families must have an adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less, and students must be Texas residents and dependents, for tax purposes, of Texas residents.
Successful applicants stand to benefit from matching scholarships in the form of tuition units valued up to $2,000 at current rates.
Additionally, top-scoring recipients may qualify for a one-time grant of tuition units, equivalent to $3,000 at today's prices.
These tuition units are earmarked for use in covering undergraduate resident tuition and mandatory schoolwide fees at Texas public colleges and universities.
It's important to note that the scholarships exclude medical and dental schools.
The application process involves students submitting a short career essay of 200 to 300 words, along with meeting other specified requirements.
For those fortunate enough to be approved, there is a contribution requirement that must be met by August 31, 2024. This involves contributing a minimum of $50 to the student's TTPF contract.
