Lawyers Continue Tradition of Reading the Declaration of Independence on the Courthouse Steps

 

SAN ANGELO – The Declaration of Independence is the first chapter in the written history of the United States of America and was signed on July 4, 1776.  It is the document granting the government its powers agreed upon with the consent of the governed.  

Every year, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association organizes a reading of the Declaration on the steps of the courthouse in each of the 254 counties in Texas.  

San Angelo Attorney Theodore 'Tip' A. Hargrove, III led the program at the Tom Green County Courthouse Friday morning with several other local attorneys.  He explains the reasoning behind the public recitation of the Declaration of Independence in the video below:
