SAN ANGELO – Angelo State University officials celebrated the ground breaking Friday for the new Housley Bell Tower to be constructed on the campus just off Johnson St. near the Stephens Chapel.
According to ASU, the Housley Tower will be 70-to-80-feet tall and will be located on campus between the Stephens Chapel and S. Johnson Street. It will feature an electronic Verdin Carillon Bell System, and the exterior and roof of the tower will match the brick-and-stone construction and metal roof of the Stephens Chapel.
The late Robert 'Bob' Housley owned and operated San Angelo based Housley Communications and his widow Mona Housley was on hand Friday morning as the driving force to complete his vision for the bell tower.
Mrs. Housley led the groundbreaking ceremony with ASU President Dr. Ronnie Hawkins, State Representative Drew Darby and Texas Tech University Chancellor Tedd Mitchell Friday morning.
