SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo ISD's Director of Communication, Derrick Jackson, has accepted a leadership position in the Denton ISD Communication Department. The Denton ISD school board met Tuesday evening and approved hiring Jackson to head their communications department there.
Denton is a fast-growing suburban area north of Dallas where the I-35E and I-35W merge.
"It was not an easy decision to leave my current position," Jackson told us. "I love this district and the San Angelo community and everyone that I've come in contact with has been nothing but outstanding to me and my family during our time here."
Jackson began his work here in May 2017. Superintendent Carl Dethloff noted Jackson's successes while in San Angelo.
"Derrick has built strong, positive relationships with local media and community leaders, and we thank him for his service to our school district. His previous background in television and production has enhanced our communication efforts as a school district," Dethloff said in a statement.
"Derrick has high integrity, a candid approach with media partners, and is a class act. His calm demeanor and kind spirit will be sorely missed. We wish Mr. Jackson and his family well and thank him for his service," he said.
Jennifer Crutchfield, San Angelo ISD Director of Advanced Academics, will also serve as interim communications director until the position is filled.
