SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State University’s student Trumpet Ensemble has been invited to perform at the 43rd annual International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference to be held May 29 – June 2 in San Antonio.

The ASU Trumpet Ensemble comprises Brandon Batten, William DeForest, Riley Jarabek and Joseph Torres, all of San Angelo. They will perform at the conference along with such noted artists at Pacho Flores, Doc Severinsen, Bert Truax, the Brazilian Trumpet Ensemble, M5 Mexican Brass, Lone Star Brass, Tromba Mundi and many others.

Dr. John Irish, ASU professor of music and Trumpet Ensemble director, will also present a master class at the ITG Conference and will conduct the “Festival of Trumpets” grand finale performance that will feature about 80 trumpeters.

The ASU Trumpet Ensemble has a vast and varied repertoire that ranges from Renaissance dances to classic Louis Armstrong jazz to modern, cutting-edge music. Its members regularly perform public concerts on the ASU campus and in the San Angelo area, as well as in collaboration with nationally-known artists.

This year’s invited performance at the ITG Conference will be the ASU ensemble’s first since 2003. Most recently, the ensemble performed at the 2018 West Chester University Trumpet Festival near Philadelphia.
