New Master's Degree Program in Experimental Psychology

 

SAN ANGELO, TX Angelo State University’s College of Graduate Studies and Research has added a new Master of Science degree program in experimental psychology that is now enrolling students for classes that will begin this fall.

The new program will have an emphasis in behavioral neuroscience and is designed to foster students’ expertise in experimental research in human and non-human laboratory settings, statistical analysis, and cognition. The coursework will address a variety of neuroscience topics, including:

  • Neuroanatomy
  • Psychopharmacology
  • Research methods
  • Statistical Analysis
  • Cognition
  • Ethics

Graduates of the experimental psychology program will be prepared to continue their education in a doctoral program, as well as for various careers, including:

  • Researcher in public or private labs
  • Psychometrician (educational or psychological measurement)
  • Higher education

The degree plan consists of 42 credit hours and is available in a thesis or non-thesis option. To be eligible, a student must hold a bachelor’s degree and must have either a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.25 – or a GPA of at least 3.5 in all psychology coursework. It is also recommended that a candidate have completed at least nine credit hours of undergraduate psychology or related coursework.

Dr. Crystal Kreitler, associate professor of psychology, and Dr. Steven Brewer, assistant professor of psychology, are the co-directors and primary instructors for the experimental psychology degree program. More details on the program are available at www.angelo.edu/experimentalpsych.
