ASU Sets Another New Record for 2017 Spring Enrollment

SAN ANGELO, TX- ASU posted an all-time record for fall enrollment last semester, and has now set another new all-time record for spring enrollment with a total of 8,708 students attending the university for the spring 2017 semester.

Graduate student enrollment reached 1,530, which is 212 more than the 1,318 graduate students who enrolled last spring. This marks the 15th consecutive long semester in which the College of Graduate Studies and Research has recorded a new enrollment high, and also marks the first time that graduate enrollment has surpassed 1,500, according to the ASU press release.

Another major factor in the record spring enrollment is the 2,114 students enrolled through ASU’s dual credit program, up from 1,922 last spring. High school students in school districts throughout West and Central Texas are earning both high school and ASU credit for courses taught on their high school campuses.

Increases were also seen in freshman, sophomore and senior enrollment while junior enrollment remained steady, resulting in a total undergraduate enrollment of 5,064 students this spring, up from the 4,837 enrolled in the spring of 2016, according to the ASU press release.

ASU’s overall spring 2017 enrollment of 8,708 students is up from 8,077 last spring.

“Our enrollment numbers have been trending upward across the board over the last couple of years, and now our undergraduate retention rates are also increasing,” ASU President Brian J. May said “That’s exciting because we want our students to feel like they are truly part of the Ram Family while they move forward to graduation. We have tried innovative approaches to both recruiting and retention, and it’s gratifying to see them come to fruition. Now we must continue our efforts to offer the excellent academic programs and comprehensive campus experience that have stimulated our growth and are pointing toward a bright future for Angelo State.”

“It’s exciting to see ASU’s enrollment continue to grow," Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert L. Duncan said." It’s a testament to Dr. May’s leadership and the quality of the faculty and staff. It’s clear that students and families recognize the value of an ASU education.”
