Famous Artist Will Lead Lecture for Students at ASU

SAN ANGELO, TX- Fort Worth-based artist Jim Woodson will be the featured speaker for Angelo State University’s 2016 Henry Edwards Distinguished Lectureship in Art on Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

Woodson’s presentation, titled “About Time,” will run from 3-4:30 p.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center and is open free to the public. Refreshments will also be available for free.

A professor emeritus of art for Texas Christian University, Woodson was named Texas State Artist of the Year in 2013 by the Texas Commission on the Arts. His figure and landscape paintings, which draw inspiration from the high deserts of the southwest, have elements of realism, expressionism, surrealism and even impressionism. His works have been displayed in more than 30 solo exhibitions and more than 50 group exhibitions, from Dallas to New York, Santa Fe, N.M., and Florence, Italy.

A native of Waco, Woodson has a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from TCU.

An exhibit of Woodson’s contemporary paintings is currently on display in Gallery 193 inside the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive. It is open for free public viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Sept. 30. On Wednesday, Sept. 28, Woodson will conduct a free public gallery talk about the exhibit at 3:30 p.m., also in Gallery 193.
