SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University announced today that enrollment hit a record high this Fall 2016 semester. This is the second year the university has posted a new record for fall enrollment, said ASU.
Enrollment is at 9.601 students, and this is the first time ASU enrollment has surpassed 9,000 students. Last fall, enrollment sat at 8,508. According to ASU, the enrollment totals were counted as of the 12th class day.
Additionally, graduate student enrollment reached 1,492, which is 257 more than the 1,235 graduate students enrolled last fall. This is the 14th consecutive semester that the College of Graduate Studies has recorded a new enrollment high, said ASU.
The university reported that increases are across the board in first-time student, freshman, sophomore, junior and senior enrollment, which leaves the total undergraduate numbers at 5,798 this fall, up from the 5,411 enrolled in the fall of 2015.
ASU said another factor in the enrollment is the 2,311 students enrolled through ASU's dual credit program, which is up from 1,898 last fall. The school serves more than 20 school districts throughout West Texas.
“It’s exciting to see all the growth at Angelo State, which is a direct result of the concerted effort put forth by the entire ASU community," said ASU President Brian J. May. "Both our traditional and innovative recruiting and retention strategies are generating consistent enrollment increases; we’ve hired a significant number of additional tenure-track faculty; and there is construction of new academic buildings on campus for the first time since 2005. This all bodes well for the future of Angelo State as we continue in our mission to provide the best possible university education and experience to our students.”
