7 ASU Art Majors Earned Honors at the American Advertising Federation

 

Seven Angelo State University art majors earned honors in the student categories for creative excellence in advertising at the American Advertising Federation-San Angelo ADDY Awards last month, said a press release Thursday.

Armando Mendoza, a senior from Del Rio, won a Gold Award and Best of Show for “Typography Self Portrait” that he created using the names of artists who have influenced his work, such as Salvador Dali, and quotes from those and other artists. He also won two Bronze Awards for a poster created for a reggae-themed contest in Brazil and for a poster advertising ASU Fright Night.

Other ASU winners were:

  • Allison Romo, a junior from Hereford, won gold for her reggae-themed poster.
  • Adrian Dominguez, a senior from Austin, won gold for a magazine cover, silver for a poster on animal rehabilitation and bronze for a nutritional ad campaign.
  • Taylor Seaton, a senior from Big Spring, won silver for her reggae-themed poster and a second silver for a poster advertising Graphic Communication Week.
  • Jennifer Fischer, a senior from Ballinger, won silver for her Graphic Communication Week poster.
  • Karra Aguilar, a junior from Lubbock, won two bronzes, one for a “No Nukes” digital illustration and one for a “Sleepers” graphic novel cover concept.
  • Desiree Marshal, a junior from Ozona, won bronze for a poster created for ASU’s Holland Symposium Contest on the theme “Space Exploration and American Values.”

The winners are all students of Edwin Cuenco, an ASU assistant professor of art who specializes in graphic design.

The San Angelo chapter of the American Advertising Federation announced the winners at an awards gala February 26.
