Howard College announced today that members of the Student Government Association (SGA) will begin Phase I of their SOS Project (Student Outdoor Space) on March 4.
According to a press release, the students will be renovating a 6,750 square foot space directly behind the West Texas Training Center that once served as a parking area.
“SGA decided to take on the project so that students now, and in the future, will have an outdoor space that is appealing and will enhance the landscaping of the courtyard area,” said the release. “In addition, it will connect with the new Student Connection Center that will be adjacent to the outside space.”
Phase I of the project will involve the removal of gravel from the entire area, and student volunteers, faculty and staff will work to get the job done. Additionally, Reece Albert Inc. donated a truck load of dirt that will be used to fill in low spots in the area.
The release noted that the next step will include fundraising to complete the project estimated at $15,000. SGA students will be asking the community for their help and support either through in-kind services or monetary donations.
