An ASU Theatre Production Receives Nominations

Angelo State University's current University Theatre production of "Expecting Isabel" has been named a Respondent's Choice by jurors for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), said a press release Monday.

The comedy, "Expecting Isabel" was directed by the assistant professor of theatre, Michael Burnett. This production was the play of choice for visiting professional respondents Dean Nolen (Texas Tech University) and Eric Marsh (Sam Houston State University). This fall dinner theatre production will have performances November 19 through 21 in the Modular Theatre at 8 p.m.

The Respondents' Choice designation means the play is under consideration for invitation to the 2016 Regional KCACTF. This will be hosted February 24 through 27 by Angelo State. "Keepingabreast," ASU's October production, has also been named a Respondents' Choice. University Theatre will be notified in December if either plays will be invited to be performed at the regional festival.

Tessa Handlin, Saxon Rhoad, and Julia Timme, all ASU students from "Expecting Isabel," received the Irene Ryan Acting Awards and nominations to the Regional Festival. Additionally, two students received Meritorious Achievement Awards. Callie Stenson received it for projection design and Josiah for stage management.

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival was founded in 1969 and includes more than 600 academic institutions nationwide participating in eight regional festivals.
