Beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, Angelo State University will present an exhibit of San Antonio sculptor Danville Chadbourne’s recent works in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive, said a press release Tuesday.
This exhibit is presented in conjunction with the Fourth Annual Richard and Pam Salmon Sculpture Competition and Symposium, and will be open for free public viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 31 in EFA Building’s Gallery 193.
According to the release, Chadbourne’s works primarily in clay and wood, and he uses a range of materials and two- and three-dimensional formats. He has created a complex body of work unified by a primal iconography and artifact-like quality emerging from a very personal and consistent formal, aesthetic and philosophical sense over the years. Additionally, his work has been featured in more than 100 one-person shows and numerous group exhibitions. He has also been included in numerous private and public collections. Sculpture Magazine featured Chadbourne in its November 2010 issue, and Ceramics Monthly did the same in its January 2006 and February 2010 issues. The sculptor also held a residency at ArtSpace India in 2007 where he culminated with exhibitions in Calcutta and New Delhi. In 2013, Chadbourne was featured artist for the West Texas Triangle, an association of five museums that includes the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.
Chadbourne will be a panelist for the Salmon Sculpture Symposium on Friday, Oct. 16, which is co-sponsored by ASU and SAMFA. This free symposium will run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall.
The sculptor, a native of Bryan, has been a San Antonio resident since 1979. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Texas Tech University. He taught at the college level for 17 years until he decided to devote working full time on his art in 1989, the release stated.
