ASU Student Selected for DC Internship

 

Nathan Pierre, a junior at Angelo State University, is serving as the third participant in the ASU Political Science and Philosophy Department’s Government and Public Service Internship Program in Washington, D.C.

A political science and intelligence, security studies and analysis double major, Pierre is spending the spring semester working as an intern for Michael Conaway, a member of the House of Representatives from Midland who represents District 11, which includes San Angelo.  Pierre is living at the Texas Tech House with other interns from Tech and received a stipend to help defray the costs of living in Washington, D.C.

A transfer student from Liberty University in Virginia, Pierre was born in the U.S. but grew up in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Fluent in English, French and Haitian Creole, he is minoring in French and studying Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. He is a member of the ASU chapter of Chi Alpha and participates in the intramural sports of football and volleyball.

Launched in 2013, the internship program is open to ASU upperclassmen majoring in political science. The internship program is designed to help participating students develop networking skills and build knowledge of public policy. Student interns also earn six credit hours in political science.
