ASU Staffer Named NRHA Fellow

 Erin Gregg, a staff member for Angelo State University’s Community Development Initiatives program, has been named to the 2015 Rural Health Fellows Program by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) at its 26^th Rural Health Policy Institute conference this week in Washington, D.C.

Based at ASU’s Center for Community Wellness, Engagement and Development (WED Center), Gregg is the Concho Valley program coordinator for the West Texas Area Health Education Center, a branch of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She is one of only 16 fellows from throughout the U.S. selected to participate in the year-long Rural Health Fellows Program designed to develop individuals who can offer clear and compelling leadership on health care needs in rural communities.

This year’s fellows represent health care agencies that stretch from New York and New Hampshire in the east to Washington and Oregon in the west. Gregg is one of two fellows from Texas, joining Dr. Roxana Cruz, primary care medical director for Hunt Regional Medical Partners in Greenville.

“We are very fortunate to have such a talented young leader at ASU and in San Angelo,” said Dr. Ken Stewart, director of Community Development Initiatives. “Erin Gregg has achieved exceptional success with the West Texas Area Health Education Center since we brought an office to the region two years ago. Her recognition as a national Rural Health Fellow confirms that success and helps us build on it.”

Gregg joined the West Texas Area Health Education Center in July of 2013 when the Concho Valley office was established as part of ASU’s Community Development Initiatives. She has generated numerous collaborative efforts to help develop the health care workforce in the 13 counties of the Concho Valley.

The NRHA is a nonprofit organization working to improve the health and wellness of rural Americans by providing leadership on rural health issues through advocacy, communications, education and research.
