ASU Graduate Enrollment at Record High

Angelo State University’s graduate enrollment set another record for the 2014 fall semester while undergraduate numbers declined slightly from 2013 levels, resulting in an overall enrollment of 6,494, the fifth-highest ever for the university.  

Graduate enrollment continued its record upswing with 1,069 students signing up for graduate courses compared to 990 last fall. This marks the 10th consecutive long semester in which the College of Graduate Studies has recorded an enrollment high.

Increases were also seen in freshman and sophomore enrollment while there were slight declines in junior and senior enrollment, resulting in a total undergraduate enrollment of 5,425 compared to 5,546 in the fall of 2013.

ASU President Brian J. May said, “We are pleased to see that the new strategies in our undergraduate recruitment are beginning to bear fruit and that the programs in our Freshman College are helping increase our retention rates. Coupled with our increased admissions standards, those programs have positioned us well for sustainable and long-term growth. Now we need to maintain those efforts and harness that momentum as we move forward.”

“The quality of our graduate programs speaks for itself,” May added, “as we continue to attract more students and have received national recognition for programs in several academic disciplines.”

Hispanic enrollment also increased to 32.48 percent of the student body compared to 31.04 percent last fall, further cementing ASU’s designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education.           

The enrollment totals were counted as of the 20th class day.             Comparisons by classification of the fall 2014 and 2013 enrollment numbers were: 

Total graduate and undergraduate semester credit hours for this fall were 80,208 compared to last fall’s 81,512.

ASU’s fall enrollment includes students from 220 Texas counties, 46 other states and 29 countries.
