ASU in Search of Provost and Vice President

A 12-member search committee has been approved by Angelo State University President Brian J. May to make recommendations for a new provost and vice president for academic affairs with the goal of filling the position by the end of the year. 

Dr. Javier Flores, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, and Dr. Heather Braden, associate professor of physical therapy and president of the Faculty Senate, will serve as co-chairs of the committee. 

Other committee members from ASU are Dr. Adria Battaglia, assistant professor of communication; Doug Fox, associate vice president, Information Technology; Dr. Kim Livengood, associate professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction; Dr. John Miazga, dean, College of Education; Dr. Charles A. Pier, chair, Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance; Dr. Ken Stewart, professor of sociology; Dr. Russell Wilke, chair, Department of Biology; and Jared Goecker, president, Student Government Association. 

Search committee members from the Texas Tech University System are Regent Nancy Neal and Dr. Joseph C. Rallo, vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Upon conclusion of the search, committee members will submit their recommendation to the president for his review and action.  The goal is to fill the position by Jan. 1, 2015.  Dr. Nancy Allen will continue to serve as interim provost, a position she has held since Dr. May, the previous provost and vice president for academic affairs, was appointed ASU president in November of 2013.

The search process will include a review of the job description for the position that serves as ASU’s chief academic officer and is second in command to the president.  The position will be advertised nationally.  Applicants will be reviewed by the committee, which will determine those qualified for interviews by phone and on campus.  The committee will then make its recommendation to the president for consideration.
