DPS Troopers Stop 3,188 Vehicles, Make 43 Narcotics Arrests in Tom Green County Operation

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Texas Department of Public Safety troopers stopped 3,188 vehicles, issued 622 citations and 3,344 warnings, and made 43 narcotics arrests during Operation Road Guardian in Tom Green County from June 7-13, the agency reported. 

The San Angelo District initiative targeted traffic violations and criminal activity to reduce crashes and improve roadway safety. Speeding accounted for 1,338 violations, while troopers cited 56 drivers for seatbelt violations and seven for failing to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles. Troopers assisted 15 motorists, conducted 66 vehicle searches — including five with K-9 units — and issued three citations for cell phone use while driving. 

Criminal enforcement produced 27 felony narcotics arrests and 16 misdemeanor narcotics arrests. Troopers also made seven other felony criminal arrests, 12 other misdemeanor criminal arrests, served 37 warrants, recovered one stolen vehicle, made one weapon offense arrest and issued 14 drug paraphernalia citations. There was one vehicle pursuit. 

Commercial vehicle enforcement included 69 commercial motor vehicles stopped or inspected, resulting in 12 citations and 119 warnings. One aggressive driver citation was issued in that category. 

"These results demonstrate the dedication of DPS Troopers to keeping Texas highways safe through enforcement, education, and public service," the department stated. "We remind all motorists to obey traffic laws, eliminate distractions, wear seatbelts, and drive responsibly. Together, we can make Texas roads safer for everyone."
