Gang Member Arrested After Traffic Stop Yields Guns, Drugs in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — A Tom Green County sheriff’s deputy arrested a 22-year-old Midland man identified as a gang member and convicted felon Saturday after a traffic stop near the 2300 block of Colorado Avenue turned up drugs and firearms. 

Jesus Crespo was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon; delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 or 2A; possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1; possession of a dangerous drug; and possession of marijuana, according to the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office. 

The deputy, working the grant-funded Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, developed probable cause during the stop and searched the vehicle. Authorities said Crespo possessed quantities of cocaine, THC and marijuana, along with narcotic packaging and paraphernalia. Two loaded firearms were found inside the vehicle. A third firearm was recovered after Crespo threw it from the vehicle as he was stopping, the sheriff’s office reported. 

Crespo is a confirmed gang member from Midland and a convicted felon, according to the agency. 

"The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office remains committed to protecting the citizens of Tom Green County through proactive police work and aggressive traffic enforcement," the sheriff’s office stated.
