Robert Lee Man Arrested After Shooting at Tow Truck Driver

ROBERT LEE, TX — A 58-year-old Robert Lee man was arrested after authorities reported he opened fire on a tow truck driver repossessing a vehicle from his home, shattering the windshield and causing a severe laceration to the driver.

Dennis Seider was booked into the Tom Green County Jail at 10:04 p.m. Thursday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief in an amount greater than or equal to $2,500 but less than $30,000, according to the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office inmate roster.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Coke County, a Coke County Sheriff’s Office sergeant responded to the 100 block of Seashore Lane in Robert Lee at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday after dispatch reported a towing company driver had been shot at while repossessing a vehicle.

The driver, an employee of West Texas Auto Recovery, told investigators he was retrieving a pickup truck under repossession from Seider’s residence. As he pulled away, he noticed a man exit the house, re-enter and then return to the porch and fire shots toward the clearly marked tow truck, the affidavit states. Glass from the shattered windshield reportedly struck the driver, causing blood on his face and a severe laceration to his left eyebrow.

The sergeant observed the damage at the scene and estimated $3,000 to $3,500 in repairs to the tow truck’s windshield.

Seider denied the allegations when questioned Thursday, claiming he was at his son’s home until 11 p.m. the night of the shooting. Investigators said the son gave conflicting accounts, telling them he dropped Seider off at the Seashore Lane residence at 10 p.m., about 30 minutes before the incident.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, the tow truck driver identified Seider from a photo array at the Coke County Sheriff’s Office, the affidavit states.
