SAN ANGELO, TX - The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office has booked two men into county jail on charges of murder in relation to a homicide investigation on 44th Street in San Angelo.
Nikolai Sanchez, 18, and Zachary Garza, 21, have both been booked into the Tom Green County jail with million-dollar bonds. Sanchez was booked on May 22, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., which was then followed by Garza at 12:10 a.m. on May, 23, 2026.
All of this stems from a shooting that occurred on May 10, 2026, at about 1:20 a.m., when San Angelo police responded to the 600 block of East 44th Street regarding a report of a shooting victim.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that multiple rounds had been fired and located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds
Investigators learned that a social gathering was taking place at the residence when an altercation involving multiple individuals occurred prior to the shooting.
22-year-old Jaborien Cook succumbed to his injuries at Shannon Medical Center. A 17-year-old female who was also struck by gunfire was treated at Shannon Medical Center and is expected to recover, police initially reported.
While officers were still investigating the original shooting scene, additional reports were received regarding a third gunshot victim arriving at Shannon Emergency Room. Officers identified the victim as Garza, who was also injured during the incident. He was later transported to a Lubbock-area hospital for additional medical treatment.
The investigation determined that three individuals were involved as suspects in this case. All three have been charged with murder.
A 16-year-old juvenile suspect was arrested and transported to the Tom Green County Juvenile Justice Center. Garza was arrested following his release from a Lubbock-area hospital and booked into the Lubbock County Jail. Sanchez, 18, was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail after he fled to Amarillo. Now, both suspects have been transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
