San Angelo Man Arrested for Allegedly Beating, Kidnapping Ex-Girlfriend

SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man has been arrested for allegedly hitting, choking and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend.

Lucky James Dillon Vargas, 23, was arrested by the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated kidnapping with bodily injury.

According to court documents, on Feb. 19, 2026, law enforcement responded to the 3300 block of Clare Drive regarding a domestic disturbance. Officers located the victim and she stated that her current “on-again-off-again” ex-boyfriend, identified as Vargas, showed up to her residence while she was getting a ride from a family member.

When the victim and the witness arrived, Vargas walked up to the vehicle and told the victim to get out. Vargas was reportedly very agitated and upset. The victim told the witness to drive so they could get away from Vargas. The two drove off, but Vargas ended up aggressively following them in his truck and eventually cut them off and blocked them in a cul-de-sac near Travis Elementary, according to their statement.

The victim exited the vehicle and approached Vargas’ truck to try and calm him down. After Vargas told the victim to get into his truck, which she did, he started recklessly and aggressively driving away, she said. Then, the victim said Vargas started to pull her hair, hit her, and pull on her shirt. She tried to leave the vehicle near a shopping center on the 2400 block of College Hills Boulevard.

As she tried to run away, Vargas chased her down, tackled her and put his hands around her throat making it difficult for her to breathe, she said, before he got her back into his truck and began driving again.

Eventually, he drove back to Clare Drive and the victim once again got out of the vehicle and ran to nearby tennis courts, where Vargas assaulted her again. The victim was able to get way and hide until she was seen by a nearby resident, who let her into his apartment to call the police.

Vargas was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Feb. 28, 2026 and released on March 1, 2026, on $150,000 bond.
