Former Lake View School Resource Officer Resigns, Won't Face Charges

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Police Department announced Friday morning that a former School Resource Officer at Lake View High School has resigned, but he will not face criminal charges.

Police Chief Travis Griffith discussed the incident in a press conference.

Jonathan Montana was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing after an investigation by the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office.

However, an internal investigation by SAPD determined that Montana’s conduct did not meet department standards.

During the course of the internal review, Montana voluntarily resigned, according to a press release from SAPD.

In March, police initially investigated an improper relationship at Lake View between a 24-year-old teacher, Abraham Gonzales, and a student.

Gonzales was arrested and charged with improper relationship between educator/student, which is a second-degree felony.

However, during the investigation, police then discovered allegations of inappropriate communication between the same student and Montana, at which point he was placed on administrative leave.

A school resource officer is a law enforcement officer who is assigned to a school to serve as a liaison between law enforcement and the school community.
