Man Armed with Rifle Shot After High-Speed Chase in Menard County

MENARD, TX — A man was shot Wednesday after allegedly assaulting his wife and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Menard County while armed with a high-powered rifle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies received a 911 call around 2:55 p.m. on April 23 reporting the domestic assault. The suspect reportedly fled southbound on U.S. Highway 83 at a high rate of speed. Menard County deputies and a Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden initiated pursuit.

The chase continued until the suspect turned west onto U.S. Highway 190. About five miles west of Menard, the vehicle left the roadway and came to a stop on the north side of the highway.

Authorities said the man exited the vehicle with a rifle and was shot during the ensuing confrontation. No officers were injured. The man was transported to Shannon Medical Center.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
