NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — The police chief of North Bergen is facing serious misconduct allegations, including defecating near desks and spiking office coffee with Viagra and Adderall, according to a complaint filed by five officers.
Chief Robert Farley, who was sworn in as chief in February 2024, is accused of creating a hostile work environment that included retaliation, discrimination, sexual misconduct and harassment. The officers said they plan to sue the township, NJ.com reported Wednesday.
The complaint details a range of alleged misconduct, including putting firecrackers under chairs, exposing himself, making inappropriate comments, defecating in garbage cans, and jabbing a hypodermic needle into an officer’s penis after chasing and cornering him, drawing blood. Farley is also accused of shaving his body hair on people and in their food.
Lt. Alex Guzman and Officers Rasheed Siyam and Christopher Bowen also submitted claims involving racial slurs, retaliation over traffic ticket quotas, and public indecency.
The officers allege the abusive behavior began after Farley, a 26-year veteran of the department and descendant of former deputy chiefs, was promoted to the top role.
A state investigation is underway, and Farley has been reported to the New Jersey Attorney General.
