SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been indicted for injuring a young teenaged girl after running from the police.
Alex Ramos, 20, of San Angelo, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for Evading Arrest and Intoxication Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury after running from the police, crashing into a house, and injuring a 13-year-old.
According to the report by the San Angelo Police Department, on October 15, 2022, around 1:00 a.m., a San Angelo police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Chevy Cruze for unconfirmed insurance at 41stStreet and Coliseum Drive. As soon as the officer activated his emergency lights, the suspect, who would be identified as Ramos, began to pick up speed.
Ramos gained speed and turned south on Columbia Street. At this point, he has gained enough speed and distance from the officer’s patrol vehicle. When Ramos entered the intersection of Columbia Street and 39thStreet, he was traveling too fast to make the turn through the intersection.
Ramos ended up losing control of his vehicle and crashed into a bedroom of a residence. The bedroom belonged to a 13-year-old girl who was sleeping in her bed, which was touching the wall Ramos crashed into. According to the officer, Ramos’ vehicle made it completely inside the bedroom and ended up causing serious harm to the teenager.
The officer commanded Ramos to get out of the vehicle and the officer noticed his response time seemed to be slow. He fell on the ground as he could not maintain his balance. Ramos was placed in handcuffs and when the officer was walking him to the patrol vehicle, he had a hard time keeping his balance.
Ramos’ eyes were observed to be red and watery and his breath smelled of alcohol.
While the officer was searching Ramos, he found less than two ounces of marijuana in his possession.
Ramos was arrested for Evading Arrest, Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle causing Serious Bodily Injury, and Possession of Marijuana. He was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on October 15, 2022, and was released the same day on $46,000 bond.
Ramos is next due in court on April 22, 2025, for an initial pre-trial and has a jury trial set for August 4, 2025.
