Wind Advisory, High Wind Warning in Effect as Gusts Reach 60 MPH

SAN ANGELO, TX – A Red Flag Warning and High Wind Warning are in effect across West Central Texas today, with strong westerly winds up to 60 mph and critically dry conditions expected to increase fire danger.

The Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. due to humidity levels dropping to 9-15%, creating extremely critical fire weather conditions. The High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory are active from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with sustained winds of 30-45 mph and gusts reaching 60 mph. Areas affected include San Angelo, Abilene, Midland, and Brownwood.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and exercise caution while driving, particularly on north-south roads where crosswinds could make travel hazardous.

A cooler weekend is expected, with highs in the 60s and 70s on Saturday and Sunday before warming into the 80s early next week. Winds are forecast to subside by Friday night, with gusts decreasing to 35 mph.
