Police Continue Search for Armed Suspect After Officer Shooting in Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX — Abilene police are searching for 39-year-old James Wesley Key, who is accused of shooting an officer during a traffic stop Tuesday night. Authorities have labeled him armed and dangerous.

This happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Roosevelt Street. According to police, Key opened fire on the officer before fleeing on foot. The injured officer was transported to the hospital, treated, and released.

A DPS helicopter and additional resources were deployed to aid in locating Key, according to KTXS12. 

Officers are urging residents to remain cautious and not approach Key if spotted. They are requesting anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Abilene Police at (325) 673-8331 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (325) 676-8477.
