MIDLAND/ODESSA, TX — A targeted enforcement operation by the Texas Department of Public Safety resulted in over 1,500 citations and warnings issued to commercial and non-commercial drivers in the Permian Basin earlier this month.
The operation, conducted by Highway Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troopers, aimed to reduce crashes and remove unsafe vehicles and drivers from the roads. Enforcement efforts took place on November 6-7 and November 12-13, resulting in the apprehension of 618 vehicles.
Key results include:
- 328 citations issued
- 1,228 warnings issued
- 857 equipment violations
- 219 speed violations
- 196 registration violations
- 69 driver license violations
- 17 misdemeanor arrests
- 9 felony arrests
Additionally, 84 vehicles were taken out of service, representing a 57.5% out-of-service rate — more than double the national average of 21%. Twenty-two drivers were also removed from service, reflecting a 15% rate compared to the 6% national average.
