BUFFALO, TX - Human remains discovered in Buffalo, Texas, have been identified in a missing persons case dating back to 2022, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect, Michael Dean Davis Jr., was arrested on Nov. 12 in Laredo and is being held on a $3 million bond on charges of murder.
The case began on June 19, 2024, when authorities received a report of two individuals—a missing person and a child—last heard from in July 2022. Both were entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. After months of investigation, Leon County investigators executed a search warrant on Oct. 22, 2024, at a property in Buffalo, where the remains were recovered. The remains were sent to the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas for forensic examination and positive identification.
Authorities say Davis’ arrest followed a coordinated effort by multiple agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Texas Rangers, and the Laredo Police Department SWAT team, among others. The investigation also focused on the safe recovery of the missing and endangered child, though further details were not disclosed.
“This is still an ongoing investigation,” Leon County Sheriff Kevin Ellis said, noting no additional information would be released at this time.
