BROWNSVILLE, TX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted more than $3.4 million in narcotics during two separate enforcement actions at Texas ports of entry over the weekend.
At the Brownsville Port of Entry, officers seized $3.2 million in methamphetamine on Oct. 18 after a 2006 Ford was referred for a secondary inspection at the Veterans International Bridge. Utilizing a canine unit and non-intrusive inspection systems, officers discovered 355 pounds of the drug.
Packages of methamphetamine and heroin seized by CBP officers during two separate enforcement actions at the Brownsville and Eagle Pass Ports of Entry over the weekend.
“Our CBP officers use different enforcement tools as they conduct their inspections to keep our borders secure,” said Brownsville Port Director Tater Ortiz.
A day later, on Oct. 19, officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry seized more than $267,000 worth of heroin. The seizure occurred after a 2015 Ford van was flagged for further inspection at the Camino Real International Bridge. Nearly 16 pounds of heroin were found hidden within the vehicle.
“These heroin seizures demonstrate the vigilance and effectiveness of our frontline officers,” said Eagle Pass Port Director Pete Beattie.
Both vehicles and narcotics were seized, and Homeland Security Investigations has launched criminal investigations into both incidents.
