SAN ANGELO, TX— The man who allegedly caused the crash that killed a Grape Creek man over Mother’s Day Weekend has been indicted.
Juan Vargas, 23, was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for manslaughter and intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.
According to reports, on May 12, 2024, at about 3 a.m., an all-terrain vehicle and a truck collided head on at the intersection of US Highway 87 and Grape Creek Road. The indictment says Vargas had consumed alcohol and was operating an off-highway vehicle on a public roadway and recklessly caused the death of Kairo DeLaTorre.
A store clerk told San Angelo LIVE! that he jumped into action at the time of the crash and attempted to perform live-saving measures on the victim.
Vargas was arrested on May 12, 2024, for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

What this article doesn’t mention is that there was another vehicle involved that was turning into the store that claimed they never saw the four wheelers headlights and had it not been the careless driving of the 21 yr old driver that was never tested for intoxication or under the influence and law enforcement solely taking the word of this kid from Big Springs in grape creek at 2:30 in the morning then the driver of that four wheeler would have never lost his best friend the passenger on that four wheeler!
