Information regarding the fatal hit-and-run that happened over the weekend on North Chadbourne Street has been released.

Andrea Mendoza, 19, has been arrested for Accident Involving Death after hitting a man with her vehicle and fleeing the scene.

According to court documents, on August 4, 2024, a call for service was issued at 32nd Street and North Chadbourne Street regarding a subject down. Officers arrived on the scene and located the victim on the west side of the roadway. The investigator was advised that the victim was missing his right leg below the knee and his left leg had been mangled.

Officers who responded applied a tourniquet to the victim who, at the time, had a weak pulse. Medics arrived there shortly after and began treating the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Several complainants on the scene called 911 but none of them actually saw the hit-and-run take place. The suspect vehicle, a white Mercury Sable, was left abandoned close to the scene at 31st Street and Chadbourne Street. Andrea Mendoza came back as the registered owner of the suspect vehicle. Patrol officers went to the address listed with the vehicle in an attempt to make contact with the residents.

The victim had multiple injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Blood was observed in the roadway that stretched around one block in length. The suspect vehicle was observed to have blood and a dent in the hood, as well as blood and tissue on top of the vehicle. The passenger side of the windshield was broken and hanging inside.

After officers went to the residence listed with Mendoza’s vehicle, they spoke with Mendoza’s family member. The woman said that she was called to pick up Mendoza and her friend, Krystal Robles, at 2902 North Bryant Boulevard.

The woman advised that Mendoza allegedly admitted to driving the vehicle and striking the victim before fleeing the scene. Then, the woman attempted to take Mendoza and Robles back to the scene of the crash but they both fled the woman’s vehicle.

Investigators were later advised that Robles was calling dispatch in reference to Mendoza committing the hit-and-run. Detectives were sent to speak with her when she allegedly said Mendoza was operating the vehicle and struck the victim before the two fled the scene.

Mendoza was arrested on August 4, 2024, and is currently an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail being held on a $75,000 bond.
