SAN ANGELO, TX— The murder suspect out of New Mexico who ran from San Angelo law enforcement shot his father before this past weekend’s manhunt.
Michael David Pacheco, 37, has been arrested, along with Gloria Jaramillo, 36, after leading the San Angelo Police Department, the Department of Public Safety, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, and other first responders on a manhunt.
According to court documents, on July 14, 2024, around 7:13 p.m., multiple officers with the SAPD, TGCSO, DPS, and other San Angelo first responders were dispatched to the 800 block of US Highway 87 regarding a gunshot victim. The victim was located, transported to Shannon Medical Center, and immediately underwent surgery.
The victim’s vehicle, a 2020 Ford Mustang, was located on the access road near where he was located. A witness located the victim who was stumbling away from his vehicle and was attempting to flag down passing motorists. All the victim could say at the scene was that he had been shot.
While the witness was rendering aid to the victim, he observed a female, who was eventually identified as Jaramillo, and the suspect, Pacheco, fleeing the area into a wooded area. During this first manhunt, no one was located.
On July 15, 2024, the victim’s Ford Mustang was being processed for evidence and a spent .25 auto bullet casing was located under the driver seat.
That same day, the victim was interviewed and identified his son, Michael Pacheco, as the person who shot him. The victim said that his son had an active warrant out of New Mexico for homicide and was trying to get him to turn himself in to law enforcement.
A physical altercation occurred, and Pacheco struck the victim with the gun before shooting him in the abdomen.
On July 15, 2024, in the same area as the shooting, a call for service was received from the 700 block of Fairview School Road where Jaramillo was taken into custody during a foot chase.
After a multi-hour-long search, Pacheco was located and also taken into custody. Pacheco had in his possession a .25 caliber “Phoenix Arms” handgun which had ammunition in the magazine that was similar to the spent casing found inside the victim’s vehicle.
Pacheco was interviewed and agreed to waive his Miranda Rights. In the interview, Pacheco allegedly admitted to being in a physical altercation with his father when he wasn’t allowing Pacheco out of the vehicle. Then, he said that he took out the handgun struck his father with the gun, and shot him once.
According to Pacheco, Jaramillo exited the vehicle and fled on foot to “avoid all this.”
Investigators did confirm that Michael David Pacheco had an active warrant for homicide issued out of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Pacheco was arrested on July 15, 2024, and is currently an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail being held on a $780,000 bond. Jaramillo is also currently an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail being held on $30,000. Bond.
