SAN ANGELO, TX — TLCA is the target of the latest social media threat made Sunday evening, May 5, 2024. According to the San Angelo Police Department, investigators are aware of a threat made against multiple TLCA campuses on social media.
Police said they do not believe the threat is “valid.”
Police added that investigators are actively investigating.
The last time TLCA faced a similar threat via social media in April 2023, police arrested a 17-year-old male. Generally a terroristic threat as defined under Texas Penal Code § 22.07 is a Class B Misdemeanor unless it involves family violence, the threat is against a public servant or official, or the threat leads to economic losses. It can be elevated to a state jail felony if the threat is against a judge or a peace officer.
“We are working in conjunction with the TLCA faculty to ensure the safety of the students and faculty,” San Angelo police stated.
The Facebook post by the San Angelo Police Department reads:
The SAPD is aware of a potential threat towards TLCA campuses that is spreading via social media. We are actively investigating this threat and it is believed that said threat is not valid at this time. We are working in conjunction with the TLCA faculty to ensure the safety of the students and faculty. Additional information may be released regarding this threat at a later point in time.
