SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office launched a "Community Action Plan" at the junction of U.S. Highway 87 North and Farm to Market Road 2105.
This initiative responds to growing concerns from local citizens and the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department after several major crashes, including severe injuries and death, occurred at the north San Angelo intersection.
The operation, conducted earlier this month, aimed to curb traffic violations known to increase accident risks at this intersection. Over two days, deputies adjusted their schedules to cover periods of peak traffic volume, enhancing enforcement and oversight.
Throughout the enforcement period, TGCSO deputies made 55 traffic stops, addressing various infractions, including speeding, failing to stop at stop signs, improper turn signaling, lane change violations, and equipment-related offenses.
This led to three vehicle searches based on probable cause, one arrest, and the issuance of 16 citations alongside 55 warnings.
The citations included six for speeding, two for ignoring stop signs, two for driving with an invalid license, four for driving without a license, one for expired vehicle registration, and one for possessing drug paraphernalia.
Additionally, the sole arrest made during the operation was for driving with an invalid license.
"The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the citizens to use caution at intersections, to stop at designated stop points, and to drive defensively," information from the Sheriff's Office stated.

PermalinkWhat they need is an overpass. Many folks will still crash there as nobody stops for red lights anymore. Just build the overpass. SIGN the damn petition (residents of TGC) if you care about your town and it's inhabitants. If not camp up and watch them crash...................

PermalinkThink back ...... How long does it take to build an overpass........... how much does it cost..... and how many wrecks will happen during the construction due to one lane traffic and other blunders ? And another tidbit an overpass must be approved by they State and of course the Federal Department of Transportation
Write more pay tickets ............

PermalinkTickets dont do shit... I've been commuting at that intersection for 20+ years and they need an overpass. Sheriffs camp there ALL the time, write tickets ALL the time. people dont give a fuck anymore buddy. Until they decide on an overpass we will continue to see more idiots failing to yield and wrecking at 87 & 2105. Oh and when they finally do start the interstate spur, you can bet they'll be an overpass there so please just get on with it already.

PermalinkIf the people driving cannot see a flashing lighted stop sign and are not smart enough to know how to properly merge onto Hwy 87 a signal light will not solve the problem. The problem is the drivers, not the control devices . Write more pay tickets and get into the idiots pockets ! Another solution is for more drivers on 2105 to change their routes and go down Armstrong to the loop. The logical solution is for drivers to remove their heads from their anal regions and learn to drive and follow the law !

PermalinkSaw my first dead person at that intersection in 1965. It was woman in a 4 door 57 Chrysler. Inside car looked like it had everything she owned in it.
She hit big concrete based light pole support right middle of hood, engine was pushed to the front seat.
The cops said she had to going +80.
Often wondered if might have been suicide.
