ELKHORN, WS – Elkhorn authorities have taken a person of interest into custody in connection with the shooting deaths of a bartender and her husband at a southern Wisconsin sports bar. The Elkhorn Police Department announced on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 via a Facebook post, revealing that the individual was apprehended on an unrelated matter. However, no additional details about the person were provided.
The incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. on Thursday at the Sports Page Bar in Elkhorn, resulting in the deaths of 37-year-old Gina Weingart and 33-year-old Emerson Weingart, as confirmed by the Elkhorn Police Department. Upon receiving reports of shots fired, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Jordan Barr, the owner of Sports Page Bar, stated that Gina Weingart had been hired as a bartender after becoming a regular customer with her husband. Barr conveyed the collective devastation felt by the Sports Page family, condemning the act of violence that has deeply affected everyone involved.
Family members shared that the Weingarts were newlyweds, having married in the summer. Elkhorn, located 40 miles southwest of Milwaukee, now grapples with the aftermath of the murders.
Bar arguments and even fist fights are not uncommon, especially in Texas and bar disputes that lead to shooting deaths tend to happen more often than expected. This case is a stark reminder of the bar shooting that occurred in Historic Downtown San Angelo on New Year's Day this year. Just as the bar owner Barr said, “It deeply affects everyone involved.”
