San Angelo Police Confirm Murder Outside Downtown Bar

SAN ANGELO— The San Angelo Police Department has released their finding about the New Year’s Day Shooting that took place this morning in downtown San Angelo that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man.

The release reads that on January 1, 2024, at 2:58 a.m.:

One male is deceased due to a gunshot early Monday morning in Downtown San Angelo. A 33-year-old male was taken into custody and was charged with Murder in relation to this incident.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of South Chadbourne earlier this morning in reference to a shooting victim. Officers arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old male in the East alley with an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers and medics attempted life saving measures, but the victim was found to be deceased. Officers made contact with the suspect, Ryan Renfroe, on scene, and he was detained pending the arrival of San Angelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

It was learned that the suspect and victim knew each other, and this incident stemmed from a previous confrontation. The suspect and victim agreed to meet with each other at the listed location to continue the previous confrontation. Once the suspect and victim made contact with each other, the victim was allegedly shot and killed by the suspect.  

Renfroe was ultimately charged with Murder and was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

This incident is still actively being investigated and additional information may be released at a later point in time.

This morning, San Angelo LIVE! received Facebook messages about a possible murder that had taken place in the early morning hours at Fat Boss Mans Pub on Chadbourne Street in downtown San Angelo. As reporters arrived, the San Angelo Police Department was conducting an investigation at the crime scene and had a drone overhead.

Then, a GoFundMe appeared online and on Facebook possibly identifying the victim. The San Angelo Police Department did not officially identify the victim and it is unknown if the GoFundMe is legitimate as it was not set up by family of the victim.

Then, at around 10:45 a.m. on January 1, 2024, Renfroe was booked for Murder into the Tom Green County Jail. he is currently being held without bond.
