'Fish Bandit' Hooks Authorities with Bizarre ATM Stunts

PROVO, UT - A Utah teenager has been apprehended by local authorities after a spree of taping fish to multiple ATMs over the past few months.

The peculiar saga unfolded in August 2023 when the Instagram account “fish_bandit84” began posting videos of the unconventional pranks. The account's bio reads, "Live, laugh, tape fish on ATMs."

Following a report from a bank in September that fell victim to the unusual act, Provo city authorities initiated an investigation into the series of incidents. The pursuit intensified when the “fish bandit” affixed a fish to a Provo police cruiser.

The trail led investigators to the Instagram account, linking the antics to the social media presence. Subsequently, a search warrant was obtained to unveil the identity behind the “fish bandit.”

The perpetrator, an unnamed teenager, now faces charges of two counts of causing property damage. The charges stem from the necessity of cleaning the ATMs, impacted by the fishy pranks.

The teenager is expected to face legal consequences for the unconventional and disruptive pranks that garnered attention on social media.
