Graphic Content: Man Shoots Girlfriend's Son in Viral X Video

FRIENDSVILLE, TN - A disturbing X (Twitter) video shows the moment an enraged man shot and injured his partner's son during a heated argument - before a dramatic standoff with cops. The appalling incident took place in Friendsville which is located approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.

The viral video captures Jeffrey Scott West, 68, shooting and injuring Kyle W. Spitze, 24, from point-blank range during a heated argument, that all took place on August 25, 2023. Unfortunately, the incident ended with West taking his own life after a prolonged standoff with law enforcement, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.

In the chilling footage from Spitze’s perspective, West is heard threatening the man before appearing in his bedroom doorway wielding a handgun. West's aggressive language and the visible firearm create an intense atmosphere as Spitze's mother, Melanie, attempts to intervene.

Spitze’s mother begins bickering with West as she shuts her son’s door to de-escalate the heated exchange.

“I’m getting ready to blow his brains out, and yours!” West shouted from behind the door, prompting Spitze to stand up and open it.

“You gonna blow my mom’s brain out?” yelled the victim, now standing in the hallway of the home, and tells West to “point that gun” at him “again.”

The video captured the escalating confrontation, with West pointing the gun directly at Spitze, who laid on his bed. West continued to brandish the handgun, and a single shot is discharged in Spitze’s direction.

“Blow my brains out? Shoot me, and I guarantee you’ll go to jail for life,” Spitze replied.

“You want me to?” West yelled, coming back given the camera and pointing his handgun at the victim, still lounging on his bed.

As the camera pans toward West, the man again points the gun in Spitze’s direction.

A single shot is discharged directly in the direction of the camera as the victim’s mother gasped in shock.

After a few seconds of eerie silence, Spitze’s mother asked in total disbelief if West just “f–king hit him?”

Blood begins to drip onto Spitze’s feet and the hardwood floor as he seems to have been grazed in the ear by the bullet.

"Oh my god! You're going to jail," she shouted, as West walked away - and Spitze began to realize what had happened.

A rush of panic quickly ensued, during which the victim is seen frantically rushing to the residence's backdoor.

Following the shooting, Spitze rushed out of the home in panic, seeking help. The Blount County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting the incident and found Spitze and his mother outside the residence. West had barricaded himself inside, leading to a two-and-a-half-hour standoff.

Once stabilized, Spitze informed officers that he and West had been engaged in an argument inside the home, and West, armed with a gun, remained indoors.

The Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiations and SWAT teams were deployed to negotiate with West. Despite multiple attempts to communicate with him, West refused to surrender. Law enforcement sent a K-9 unit into the home shortly before 11 p.m., discovering West dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Spitze, who sustained a non-life-threatening injury, was promptly taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. The nature of the relationship between West and Spitze remains unknown. Officers later verified West's suicide and reported that Spitze had sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear. The incident did not result in injuries to law enforcement officers.
