SAN ANGELO _ A San Angelo man has been indicted for a shooting at the Nueva Vista Apartments back in August.
Kaya Tyriq Paulhill, 22, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Burglary of a Habitation in October for shooting a man and stealing a knife.
According to court documents, on April 18, 2023, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Nueva Vista Apartments, located on 2401 Lillie Street, near building ten for a shooting victim. Officers located a victim who had suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.
The defendant, who was identified as Paulhill, fled in a black Dodge Charger, which was found at a separate location at North Jefferson and Junius Street.
Video evidence was collected from witnesses which showed Paulhill discharging a handgun. In the video that was taken, it showed Paulhill step towards the victim while pointing a handgun at the victim and discharging it several times.
A witness said that she and the victim were having a conversation in the parking lot. Paulhill then arrived with his two children and was walking away from his black Dodge Charger when the victim started arguing with Paulhill due to him believing the victim made a rude comment. The witness alleged that Paulhill pulled up his shirt, showing the handgun tucked in his waist band and said, “You don’t want none”.
The argument escalated and Paulhill removed the weapon from his waist band and began shooting at the victim several times. After the victim was shot, Paulhill ran to his black vehicle.
Paulhill was interviewed and admitted that he had gotten into an argument with the victim and exhibited a black 9mm handgun and advised that at some point, pointed the gun at the victim and shot him several times before fleeing the scene in his vehicle.
Paulhill was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on April 28, 2023, for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and was released on May 10, 2023, on $250,000 bond. He was also indicted on Burglary of a Habitation for entering a house and taking a knife without the consent of the owner on August 19, 2023.
Paulhill was booked again into the Tom Green County Jail on August 22, 2023, and is currently an inmate being held on $952,500 bond.
