Gunman Tells Victim "You Don't Want None" Before Shooting

SAN ANGELO, TX – New details have been released in the Nuevo Vista Apartment shooting with the filing of an affidavit with the District Court.

According to a recently released affidavit, on Friday, Apr. 28, 2023, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the Nuevo Vista Apartments near building ten for a shooting victim.

Officers arrived to the scene and located the victim, Javier Sanjuan, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting suspect, later identified as Kaya Paulhill, 21, of San Angelo, had fled after the shooting in a black Dodge Charger. Paulhill was located near North Jefferson and Junius Street in the vehicle.

Back on scene, police discovered that a witness had captured the shooting on video. It was clear in the video that Paulhill was the one in the video shooting Sanjuan. The video shows the two arguing. The video shows Paulhill step towards Sanjuan, point a dark colored handgun, and discharging it multiple times.

The officers then spoke with a witness on scene. She claims that she and Sanjuan were having a conversation in the parking lot. At some point Paulhill and his two children arrived and were walking away from his black Charger.

The witness then told the officers that while Paulhill was walking away, Sanjuan began arguing with him. The two were auguing after Paulhill believed Sanjuan made a rude comment to him.

Seconds before the recording, the witness claims that Paulhill pulled his shirt up to show the pistol. While doing it he told Sanjuan "you don't want none." This led to the escalation of the fight and the shooting.

Another witnesses on scene, a juvenile, told officers that they had seen two men without shirts on in a verbal altercation. At some point one man pulled a gun from his pocket and shot the other man multiple times. The juvenile finished by telling police that the shooter got into a black car and fled the scene.

Police then spoke with Paulhill. He admitted to arguing with Sanjuan, pulling out a black 9mm handgun, and shooting Sanjuan. The black 9mm handgun was located and seized during the investigation.

Pualhill was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He remains in jail on a $250,000 bond. Sanjuan was hospitalized for his injuries. He survived but had to undergo a number of surgeries. To help Sanjuan and his family, click his GoFundMe link here.
