SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been indicted for threatening to stab a woman in the neck with a screwdriver.
Francisco Garza, 57, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after threatening to stab a woman multiple times in the neck with a screwdriver.
According to court documents, on June 20, 2023, San Angelo police officers responded to the 2000 block of North Harrison Street for an alleged assault between Garza and the victim.
The victim said she had divorced Garza in 2020 but has allowed him to stay in the residence since the divorce.
She stated that they had gotten into an argument and Garza picked up a screwdriver and came after her down a hallway. She said that at the end of the hallway, Garza was pushing against the victim with no space between them. Then, Garza lifted the screwdriver over his head and told the victim that he was going to stab her in the neck 13 times.
The screwdriver was phillips head and was eight inches long. The investigator recognized that this screwdriver could cause serious bodily injury or death if it was stabbed into the victim’s neck.
A witness was inside the house who said that Garza had a screwdriver and had it raised above his head as if he was going to stab the victim. The victim said that Garza never stabbed her and that she did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
Garza said he and the victim were having an argument and he did have a screwdriver in this hand. He added that the two were threatening each other but that he never threatened to stab the victim with the screwdriver.
Garza was arrested and booked on June 21, 2023, into the Tom Green County Jail and was posted a $30,000 bond the next day. Aggravated assault with a Deadly Weapon is a second-degree felony that carries a possible $10,000 fine and two to 20 years in prison. Garza will be in court on September 27, 2023, for post indictment reporting.
