Crazed Man Head Butts a Cop While Being Arrested

 

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man high on meth has been arrested for head butting an officer in the face.

James Prater, 43, has been arrested after he allegedly head butted an officer in the face who was trying to detain him.

According to court documents, on July 16, 2023, San Angelo police responded to the 700 block of Knickerbocker Road for an unknown problem. Once on scene, officers located a man on the roof of a closed business who was screaming and possibly on narcotics. The man, identified as Prater, came down from the roof of the business and evaded officers on foot while they attempted to detain him.

Prater was eventually detained and taken into custody. Upon being arrested, Prater allegedly head butted an officer in the face, which caused the officer pain. Prater was taken to Shannon Medical Center for psychological issues. Officers were in full San Angelo police uniform when the assault took place.

Prater was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for Evading Arrest or Detention and Assault of a Peace Officer. Prater is currently and inmate being held on $30,000 bond.
