SAN ANGELO, TX – A 23-year-old San Angelo man has been sentenced to more than 30 years in federal prison for numerous counts of crimes against children.
As previously reported, on October 12, 2021, Esiah Cruz Castillo, 23, of San Angelo, was arrested by the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office on more than 20 charges, including aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual assault of a child, and indecency with a child by sexual contact.
Castillo was indicted by a Tom Green County Grand Jury in December 2021. While fighting charges in District Court, Castillo was also charged with federal child sex crimes, including indecency with a child by sexual contact.
After months of court hearings, all while being in federal custody, Castillo finally agreed to plead guilty to his crimes. He first pleaded guilty in federal court. Judge James Wesley Hendrix, of Lubbock County, sentenced Castillo to 33 years in a federal prison with 30 years of supervised release. The prison time will run concurrently with the charges out of Tom Green County.
On June 21, 2023, Castillo appeared in front of Judge Tommy Lefon. Castillo also pleaded guilty to these crimes. In exchange for the plea, Castillo was sentenced to 20 years in a Texas prison. As previously stated, these sentences will run concurrently.
Castillo was brought back to the Tom Green County Jail for the hearing. He will soon be transferred out and given to the BOP (Bureau of Prisons).
