The video captures two middle school students involved in a fight. Within seconds, Lone Star Middle School staff and a DPS trooper intervened and separated the individuals. The increased presence of law enforcement personnel on all campuses was confirmed by DPS as a precautionary measure.

San Angelo ISD sent a message to parents addressing the incident. In their statement, San Angelo ISD mentioned the involvement of an adult in the altercation. DPS confirmed that they successfully deescalated the situation and that no arrests were made.

The following is the message from SAISD:

On Friday, May 26, 2023, an incident occurred outside Lone Star Middle School during dismissal involving a student and an adult that is not an employee of the District. SAID leaders and campus administrators immediately followed San Angelo ISD procedures, and the adult was detained by a State Trooper who was already on campus. We are currently awaiting more information from the San Angelo Police Department. We take all matters of this nature seriously. The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. SAISD, by law, is not at liberty to publicly disclose the names of students. We follow the process indicated in our policy following the outcome of the investigation. We encourage everyone to report threats of any kind to a district or school official, local law enforcement, or report the concern on our district StayAlert link on the SAID website. Student reports will be kept confidential. We appreciate the collaborative effort between the school and SAPD.
