Dumpster Baby's Mother Sentenced to Nearly 2 Decades in Prison

 

HOBBS, NM – The mother convicted of throwing her baby into a New Mexico dumpster was sentenced to more than 15 year in prison on Monday.

As previously reported, on Apr. 15, 2023, Alexis Avila, 18, of Hobbs, was found guilty of the attempted murder of her infant child. For the original story see: New Mexico Teen Mom Found Guilty of Attempting to Kill her Newborn

The court reconvened on May 1, 2023. The jury deliberated for just two hours before sentencing Avila to 16 years in a New Mexico Prison.

The story got a ton of national attention after video showed Avila throwing the infant in the dumpster. Since that day the baby has been relocated and is in good health.
